So the finalists in the BBC Sound Of 2011 poll have been revealed, pursued by the usual online cynicism. At present a shortlist of fifteen of the “most promising” acts of next year, the annual compilation attracts the same amount of stick / discussion as most round-ups, although in its defense as the product of votes from 160 “tastemakers” it holds a little more weight than your average list.
For what it’s worth, I’d cut The Naked And Famous immediately (do we need a copy of a copy of a copy, really? They fester at the tail end of music’s evolutionary chain thus: Bowie > MGMT > Passion Pit > Naked & Famous > Pop Eating Itself) and throw in Phaelah, Blondes, Crystal Fighters, Delorean, Joker and Gallops instead. But that’s just me.
Other than that, it’s quite an encouraging list. Props to Yuck, Anna Calvi, Esben & The Witch, Nero, James Blake and Warpaint.
Maybe one of them could be next year’s Ellie Goulding (or Little Boots, Adele or Mika). Here’s the Nominated Few. Have a listen and weigh in as only NME.COM users can.

What do you think of the list? And who would be your tip? Bear in mind they can’t have had a Top 20 single or album, and they can’t be famous from a TV or talent show (otherwise I’d have put Wagner in mine).
