It's rumoured to drop in late 2019
Global megastar Adele has reportedly started working on her fourth album – her first since 2015’s hugely sucessful ’25’ – and fans are already getting excited.
But what can we expect from the new record? And what has Adele been up to in the meantime? Here’s all we know so far. We’ll keep this page updated.
When will it be released?
According to a music insider speaking to The Sun, Adele’s fourth album is expected to drop around Christmas time in 2019.
Has Adele started working on the new record?
Yes, apparently she’s written some tracks for the new album.
The same music insider told The Sun: “She’s back in the UK and intends to write here. A number of studio musicians have been approached to work with her and she’s already penned some of the songs.”
The Sun also reported that Adele will spend most of this summer writing the new record.
The new update marks one of the first major developments for Adele since vocal chord damage forced her to cancel two of her four Wembley Stadium shows in 2017.
Spotted in a New York drag bar, Adele apparently told the crowd, having been handed the mic, “I’m out in New York working”, in March 2019.
What will be the title for the new album?
We don’t know yet.
However, Adele said in a January 2016 episode of Carpool Karaoke that ’25’ was the the last album to be titled after her age – and said that her fourth record could be eponymously titled.
Her other two albums, called ’21’ and ’19’, also reflected her age at the time of writing.
“This is the last album after my age,” she told Cordon. “I believe in trilogies, yeah. The next one is just gonna be ‘Adele.'”
So, it looks like album number four could be a break from tradition…
Have any tracks been released from her upcoming album?
Nope, not yet, sorry.
What has Adele been getting up to since her last album?
Adele has kept a fairly low profile since the global success of her third album ’25’ in 2015, which debuted at number one in 32 countries and sold more than 22 million copies worldwide. After she finished touring for that record in the summer of 2017, she said that she would be taking a break.
The star has been a vocal supporter of the families affected by the Grenfell Tower blaze, after it broke out less than a mile from her Kensington home.
She was seen attending a memorial service to mark one year since the blaze, having previously attended the scene to comfort victims and their families with her husband Simon Konecki.
In the days following the blaze , she also visited a local fire station for ‘tea and cuddles’, and treated children from Grenfell to a private screening of Despicable Me 3 last August.
In December last year, Adele provided the voice-over and soundtrack for a video for Grenfell United, a charity aiding the survivors and bereaved families of the disaster.
Adele celebrated her thirtieth birthday last May, posting about her celebrations on Instagram, and praising Childish Gambino following the release of his new track ‘This is America’ and music video:
She was also spotted with Jennifer Lawrence in March, playing drinking games in New York gay bar, Pieces, telling the crowd that her occupation was “stay-at-home mum”.
