Prior to their headline slot at Coachella festival this weekend, Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose was confirmed as the temporary lead singer for classic rock band AC/DC for the remainder of their tour. Rose will replace Brian Johnson, who was forced to give up his role in the band due to the possibility of losing his hearing if he continued to tour with the Aussie rockers as lead singer. AC/DC’s tour will include shows throughout May and June, including two UK dates at London’s Olympic Stadium (June 4) and Manchester’s Etihad Stadium (June 8), but we got an early hint at what the collaboration could look like when AC/DC guitarist Angus Young joined Guns N’ Roses at their Coachella gig.
Rumours surrounding Rose potentially joining the band had been gaining momentum for weeks following a hint by a US radio DJ, confirmation by guitarist Malcolm Young’s son and even a picture of Rose and the band leaving the same rehearsal space. Response to the announcement was lukewarm – to put it nicely – as fans of G N’ R were angry at Rose for potentially jeopardising their stadium tour coming this summer, and fans of AC/DC were concerned about Rose’s diva reputation overshadowing the band’s ‘Rock Or Bust’ Tour.
Several fans were still hoping that this was just a very elaborate joke by Rose and the band
Is Axl Rose singing for acdc a late april fool's joke

But plenty were disappointed at the news of Johnson’s replacement

Some fans were already trying to get a refund for their tickets for the tour
@Gigantic hey, how does your refund policy work regarding the AC/DC line up change? Did not pay to see Axl Rose.
— bekah ? (@bekahkahkah) April 18, 2016
@acdc where can I get a refund?? Complete joke!!! I'm not paying £80 to see an AC/DC tribute band!! AC/DC RIP
— Nathan Mansfield (@N_Mansfield) April 17, 2016
So where do I get a refund for these AC/DC tickets? Not wasting time on this fiasco.
— Tom C (@adventuretom) April 17, 2016
Sorry but I would much, much rather have a refund than see Axl Rose replace Brian Johnson. It's now a tribute band. RIP AC/DC (1973 – 2016)

A few were intrigued by the prospect
Axl Rose the new lead singer of AC/DC?! What could possibly go wrong. pic.twitter.com/wxCR21tMcU

Axl Rose is AC/DC's new frontman. This could be strangely good, or really, really bad…
— Creepy Emo Drummer (@neverarockstar) April 17, 2016
Interesting idea – let’s hold on to that one
Failing Axl Rose, AC/DC could have just hired Ozzy Osbourne to chase a cat with a microphone around on stage. #ACDC

Axl Rose – singer for hire? Don’t rule it out
