Firas On NME Radio – Arctic Monkeys, Florence, The Chemical Brothers

Like Cleopatra, I’m coming atcha. You know I’m joking with this street lingo right? Good. Now let’s have a walk through a couple of tracks exciting my iPod this week.

First up. I managed to bag last minute tickets for a tiny Florence & The Machine gig last night in London. At the 350 capacity 100 Club on Oxford Street I bore witness to a fine musical show that was hot, sweaty and of epic proportions. It was nice to take a trip back in time and see her playing small sweatboxes. The show nowadays is much more honed.

Next up, seems like I’ve got a run of good gigs this week. My mate Jim told me on Saturday he’d be giving me one of his guestlist places for Arctic Monkeys. To say I was a happy man would be an understatement. I missed the chance of seeing them back in t’day in Sheffield while a student. Admittedly I’d love to see them in a small venue but I’m definitely not turning my nose up at this.

Next up, I dragged this little puppy out from the dusty depths of my external harddrive. The Chemical Brothers have long held a place in my heart as rave pioneers. Good memories come flooding back of Bestival back in 2007.

Finally, this French electronic beast from La Priest. I first got given this when Late of the Pier hooked me up. Lead singer Sam also moonlights as a fine electronic artist. A couple of years later and Erol Alkan picked it up, remixed it and released it. Absolute belter of a track. Could’ve been made by Daft Punk. The fact it was made by young Sam in his bedroom in Castle Donnington fails to take the shine off this monster.
