Georgie: Get The Lowdown On Blossoms’ Latest Support Act

Tonight Blossoms will head out on another huge tour of the UK, which arrives at the end of their triumphant 2016. Joining them at the shows are our favourites InHeaven and Georgie, an emerging singer-songwriter ready to seize the opportunity. We caught up with the Mansfield singer to get the lowdown on her career so far and her upcoming support slot.

At what point, did you realise music could be something you wanted to do?

“I was about 14 and when I picked up the guitar really. Within a week of picking up the guitar I wrote my first song, and I think that was the point that I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I think the main reason why I started writing songs was mainly just for myself because the thing that I found so amazing about it was a great way to express myself. I felt lucky that I found this kind of outlet.”

You did a lot of gigging in pubs as a teenager – what was that like?

“I was so young that some of them I had to sneak in to play. Once I actually had an history exam the next morning and I failed it because I ended up staying and playing four sets that night.”

How did your family take you putting gigs before exams?

“I think that when you tell anybody when you’re 14 that you want to be a musician, it takes quite a lot for people to take you seriously. Even when you go to career adviser at school, they tell you that it’s not a job. They’d ask ‘what do you actually want to do when you grow up?’ and I was like ‘that is what I want to do!'”

What was influencing you when you were writing ‘Company Of Thieves’?

“I think it is quite a defiant song, especially for women that have been in intimate relationships. I was kind of inspired by people like Patti Smith, PJ Harvey and Janis Joplin who I think also wrote those kind of lyrics.”

Now you’re about to head out on tour with Blossoms, is there one show you’re singling out as the big one?

“Shepherd Bush probably. The iconic venues will be great, so I’m really excited for that. I think we’re all really excited for all of them and I’m sure they’re all going to be great.”
