After four decades of lineup changes, astronomical album sales and some of the biggest and most daring tours the world has ever seen, AC/DC appear to be on the ropes.
Yesterday, bassist Cliff Williams announced that at the end of their current ‘Rock Or Bust World Tour’, he would be leaving the band permanently. He’s not the only member to have left the group in recent years. In 2014, founding member Malcolm Young retired from the band to receive treatment for dementia and earlier this year vocalist Brian Johnson had to withdraw from the current tour following issues with his hearing. This is in addition to drummer Phil Rudd, who was kicked out of the band in 2015 after he was found guilty of threatening to kill a former employee.
So where do they go from here? Their current tour has transpired to be quite the triumph and just as bombastic and thrilling as their last and Angus Young – now the only original member in the band – has indicated that he’s keen to keep touring and record a new album for the group. After joining the group to replace Johnson, Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has for the most part been a success, with fans pleasantly surprised with his role. Could he appear on the new album?
Fans however were dismayed at the way Johnson was ‘booted’ from the group, and, with touring clearly taking a toll on the group, is it time for the group to call it a day? Take our poll to decide if it really is ‘Rock Or Bust’ for them.
