Arctic Monkeys weren’t the only ones putting on a huge couple of shows this weekend: it’s also been Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow, where over 50,000 people were treated to some of the biggest and best acts around. The three-day event saw headline performances from big-hitters Coldplay, Katy Perry and Kings Of Leon, and there were also top slots from the likes of Kasabian, Lorde and Chvrches. We’ve picked out eight of the best performances below:
Kasabian – ‘Eez-eh’
Tom and Serge have been warming up for their huge shows at Leicester’s Victoria Park and Glastonbury headline slot with some low-key Irish and Scottish shows – and it looks like the new material is going down well…
Gorgon City – ‘Ready For Your Love’
The dance duo drew a huge crowd to the In New Music We Trust stage, which a tune that’s set to rule the summer.
Chvrches – ‘The Mother We Share’
In case you’re unsure if Chvrches are a genuinely big deal, then take a look at this – and on home turf as well. Sparse but effective.
Coldplay – ‘A Sky Full Of Stars’
Coldplay’s Chris Martin hung around most of the weekend (even joining Kings Of Leon on stage at one point). Now that ‘Ghost Stories’ has gone to Number 1 in all but around three of the world’s countries, they performed one of it’s rare upbeat moments.
Jake Bugg – ‘Messed Up Kids’
Such is the variety of this event, Jake Bugg performed on the main stage between Pharrell and Lily Allen.
Lorde – ‘Royals’
One of the New Zealand megastars first UK festival appearances, and a performance of her best-known (and best-loved) single…
Bombay Bicycle Club – ‘Feel’
The London band were unimpressed with One Direction’s performance at the same event, criticising the boyband’s lack of showmanship. Here they are trying to show them how it’s done with their track ‘Feel’ from this year’s ‘So Long, See You Tomorrow’ album.
Pharrell – ‘Happy’
Go on then… not a bad theme for a spectacular weekend of live music, eh?
