Kanye Did A Radio Interview And It Was Great – Here’s What We Learned

Yeezy season is almost upon us and Kanye is on the rampage ahead of the release of his new record. On Wednesday he expertly Photoshopped himself onto a music magazine cover (one we shall not name) and just last week he had an explosive Twitter beef with rapper Wiz Khalifa and his ex-wife Amber Rose.

Today, Kanye emerged from his LA studio to give pal Big Boy (not Big Boi of OutKast) an interview on his West Coast radio show. Here’s what we learned from the eye-opening chat.

Kanye still doesn’t have a name for his album

We’ve seen Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian lobby Twitter for their opinion on a new album names, but Kanye has said that “We don’t have a name yet” for the record. He added that Kim’s poll was about gauging fan’s opinions. “I wanted to get people’s opinions on how they felt.”

The new album is ‘the gospel according to Ye’

Kanye referenced to the album being a gopsel album on Twitter on thursday but he’s reaffirmed his intentions. “It’s a gospel album with a whole lot of cursing on it… it’s the gospel according to Ye”

Kanye and Wiz Khalifia have settled their beef

He revealed that he and Wiz Khalifia are on good terms after his explosive rant the other day. “We chopped it up, squashed it. For people who felt a way about the kids comment, I didn’t mean it in a harmful way. I just saw my wife’s initial and I reacted, cause that’s my family. People be thinkin’… [Kim] is open season. That’s the mother of my kid! And I’m Ye. I don’t want to act like I’m the toughest… but I want to act like a family man… It was great to have closure, it was great to just talk and build.”

Drake might have a bigger pool, but Kanye has three

In new track ‘Summer Sixteen’, Drake fired a perceived jab at Kanye with the line “Now I gotta bigger pool than Ye”. Kanye has revealed that he in fact has three pools. 1-0 to Yeezy.

The album has been three years in the making

He didn’t elaborate. He didn’t need to, he’s Kanye West. But we got the impression that this album has been a labour of love.

Ain’t nothing lucky about his success

“I played something for somebody the other day and they said good luck… man I am offended by the word luck because of the amount of work I‘ve put in”.

He’s trying to open hearts and minds

In response to Big Boy asking ‘what are you trying to give us?’ he responded “ultra light beams, I’m trying to open up hearts, minds.” Nice and cryptic then.

The album has been a team effort

The tracklist for ‘Swish’/’Waves’ was initially scrawled onto a piece of paper and grew on a daily basis with members of his family (including Kim’s sister Kylie Jenner) making their mark on the track list. Kanye has now revealed that he frequently seeks his family’s (and the internet’s) advice on the new record. “I’m only doing 1% or 2%” of the work with God and family pitching in to help.
