Listen To Ex-Hex’s Rowdy Punk Cover Of The Real Kids’ ‘All Kinds Of Girls’

At the tail end of 2014, Washington trio Ex Hex (fronted by Wild Flag guitarist and riot grrl lynchpin Mary Timony) delivered one of the most gloriously unapologetic, straight up rock’n’roll records of the year in debut ‘Rips’. It was the kind of album that always had a cigarette dangling from its mouth and never left the house without its leather and shades. It was, in essence, very fucking cool.

Now, the band are back with a cover of 70s Boston troupe The Real Kids’ single ‘All Kinds Of Girls’, released ahead of Ex Hex’s forthcoming UK tour this November. “‘All Kinds of Girls’ is just a great song, the kind of song that you wish you wrote,” says Timony of the track. “John Felice from The Real Kids is a true American classic.” In their version of the song, Timony and co channel the American punk classic, instead. Like an all-girl Ramones, they take the effortless swagger of ‘The KKK Took My Baby Away’ and add a sprinkle of glam rock guitar fuzz for good measure.

Check out the track below, and catch Ex Hex at one of their live dates this November.
