1. Sleeve of the day
Out on 12″ in November, it’s the first new music from James Murphy since 2007’s masterpiece ‘Sound of Silver’ (if you bypass the Nike 45:33 stuff). In case you missed it emerge online towards the end of last week, it’s a cover of an Alan Vega track from 1980, and you can nab it over at We All Want Someone To Shout For.
2. Free download of the day
Finally the full version of A-Trak’s take on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ ‘Heads Will Roll’ has appeared. Not sure I like it as much as the Erol one, but still well worth a punt. Good bounce.
3. Buy this
Atlas Sound ‘Logos'(4AD) (buy from Rough Trade).
The second solo project album from Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox is a more accessible progression from last year’s debut ‘Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel’. Of all the collaborative tracks, ‘Quick Canal’ with Laetitia Sadler of Stereolab is a total gem.
4. Gig of the day
Randall & Spunt may sound like some kind of US comedy duo magic act, but I reckon Randy and Dean’s band No Age are one of the most important to have emerged this side of ‘Bleach’. Go. Go. Go.
5. Visual New Noise
Brett Domino – ‘Hip Hop Medley’
This is probably just some viral thing by Stylophone, but bloody hell it worked. It is genuinely hilarious, and has made me WRITE a Christmas list in October, just so I can stick it at the top. No mean feat.
