Notes From The Underground – Fest 8 Is Coming

The other day, the good dudes at No Idea Records announced the first batch of bands for 2009’s The Fest for the consecutive eighth year – due to take place over Halloween weekend in sunny Florida.

7 Seconds, Less Than Jake and A Wilhelm Scream are among the main stagers, with others appearing across the six different venues in downtown of the University City of Gainesville (rock city?), along with a whopping 200 or so other awesome punk rock bands from all around the states and beyond.

Luckily for those of you who will be trick-or-treating around the village instead of partying-on to the sweet sounds of 7 Seconds or sipping from tinnies in a hotel room singing along to Jeff Rosenstock rocking out acoustic style some old ASOB tunes, I will be reporting numero 8 of The Fest exclusively for NFTU with video interviews and free MP3 downloads of all the best bands – plus reasons why you should go next year.

One major difference between this year’s Fest and previous years’ is the solid list of UK bands playing:

Above Them
The Arteries
Bangers
The Tupolev Ghost
Brothers
Calvinball
Chillerton

All will be travelling over the pond with rocking apparatuses in hand representing what UK punk rock is about along with loads more yet to be confirmed (yes, there’s still time for Apologies, I Have None).

Here’s Paint It Black’s attempted guerrilla show at last year’s Fest:

So who are you looking forward to most?

For me, it’s all about the hugely influential 7 Seconds, the inevitably inebriated Dillinger Four (D! 4!), the best Kid Dynamite tribute around Shook Ones and the wired-up Dead To Me (alongside [the Cornish pasties of punk rock] Bangers, The Arteries, Coffee Project, Dear Landlord, Iron Chic, Lemuria, Look Mexico, Nothington, Rehasher, The Copyrights, The Flatliners and The Max Levine Ensemble).
