One such thrilling live performance with Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar had been all but erased from the internet – much to our dismay. Until now. On Facebook, The Prince Museum (a dedicated fan page) shared footage of Prince and Kendrick performing live at his Paisley Park studios for a few lucky fans. And to put it in simple terms – it is mind-blowing.

The gig originally took place in 2014 and shows the pair performing ‘Crystal Ball’ deep cut ‘What’s My Name’ alongside Prince’s then backing band, 3RDEYEGIRL. Before Prince’s death, Kendrick revealed that the pair initially hit the studios while Kendrick was making ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ but nothing came to fruition. He explained, “We got to a point where we were just talking in the studio and the more time that passed we realised we weren’t recording anything. We just ran out of time, it’s as simple as that.” At least we have this incredible performance to see what might have been though.
