The Daily Download Record Label Profile is eight today, and helping it celebrate, LA’s seminal label In The Red. The imprint has been pumping out diesel-stained lo fi rawk since 1991 from King Khan to Vivian Girls and The Dirtbombs.
Here’s four of their best acts right now.
First up, Montreal’s Demon’s Claws, who come across a less chaotic Black Lips and released new album ‘The Defrosting Of…’ earlier this month.
Next, Parting Gifts, who started life as a one-off collaboration between Greg Cartwright from The Oblivions and Coco Hames (The Ettes and Coco Motion) but developed into a fully-formed band with a penchant for fuzz. Their debut, ‘Strychnine Dandelion’, features help from members of The Black Keys, The Raconteurs and Daptones and is released on Nov 15th.
Cheap Time, meanwhile, hail from Nashville and have Jay Reatard in their top eight. Which tells you all you need to know.
Finally, Tyvek are a new signing to In The Red. The Detroit noiseniks sent us one minute forty of distorted garage pop that makes us want to smash wooden chairs over the workies’ heads.
