Kent punk duo Slaves’ upcoming second album is called ‘Take Control’, but the video for its latest single, ‘Consume Or Be Consumed’, sees their appetites spiral very much out of control as they pig out on piles of hotdogs in an eating competition that singer Isaac Holman – who spends most of the track rapping – is destined to lose.
The clip follows in the lo-fi footsteps of their video for the album’s title track, which also looks like it was filmed on a broken iPhone in 2007. The track itself in a lopsided punk banger, on which Slaves rally against consumerism, while Isaac makes the disconcerting confession: “Sometimes I’m online, wanking over cyber porn / Other times in your shower, sniffing your conditioner.”
Beastie Boy Mike D, who produced the album, makes an appearance to deliver his verse, from the comfort of his home in California. Still, it’s enough to satisfy our appetites for the Slaves/Beastie Boys collaboration we never knew we needed.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering if Laurie’s veganism has slipped, it hasn’t – they’re veggie sausages.
