Following the latest Arctic Monkeys tidbit; namely that ‘Suck It And See’ was influenced by ”Nick Cave, John Cale, Lou Reed, (David) Bowie (and) Leonard Cohen”, let’s see if you can spot the handiwork of any of those past masters on the latest stream from the album.
Unlike the hard rocking ‘Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair’ or the pomp-rock strut of ‘Brick By Brick’, ‘Reckless Serenade’ is a mellower moment with Alex Turner’s vocals assuming the same baroque persona of his ‘Submarine’ EP.
It’s quite lovely and, if we had to say, we would pick out John Cale’s early solo stuff as having a bearing on ‘Reckeless Serenade’’s sound. Well, except without the Welsh accent.
‘Suck It And See’ is out on June 6 via Domino, and you can stream ‘Reckless Serenade’ below.
