The Best, Worst, And Messiest Moments Of The Shockwaves NME Awards – Video

With mere hours to go until the Shockwaves NME Awards 2010, we’re taking a look back at the legendary ceremony’s best moments.

First up, Russell Brand introducing Bob Geldof at the 2006 ceremony. “Please welcome to the stage Sir Bobby Gandalf everybody”, Rusty Rockets announced, to which Geldof replied: “Russell Brand, what a cunt”.

(Watch to the end as there’s more banter there)

Back in 1964 it was quite a different story, as some guy in a suit announced, “we come to that part of the programme where we offer some more tangible token of our esteem to the artists that topped our poll some time ago” before introducing “tip-top TV personality” Roger Moore. First up, the runner-up in the Disc Jockey Award, Jimmy Saville (and later in the clip, The Beatles).

Next, in this brilliant edit, We Are Scientists annoy the hell out of the stars ahead of the 2008 NME Awards, getting Kelly Osbourne mixed up with Kate Nash and introducing Dev Hynes as “Devendra Banhart also known as Buzz Lightyear”.

Part Two sees WAS introduce an unsuspecting Reverend And The Makers as Robert De Niro and unbelievably he doesn’t deny being the legendary actor. Neither does boxer Joe Calzaghe. Agyness Dean also gets the run around.

In this clip, we take a peek at the backstage debauchery from the 2007 awards at Hammersmith Palais, where Jarvis flirted with Beth, Kyle from The View threw up on the floor and Sarah from Girls aloud got “fingered”.

Here Dizzee Rascal stage dives after picking up Best Dancefloor Filler last year.

And way back in 2002, some fresh-faced Strokes talk about winning Best Album.

The Libertines recite a Siegfried Sassoon poem as they pick up the award for Best Band in 2004.

This was a tender moment, Blur talking about their comeback performance ‘This Is A Low’ backstage at the 2009 awards.

Finally, who can forget White Lies’ impeccable performance at last year’s Big Gig?
