The Cure, Reading And Leeds – Inside This Week’s NME

So, the Reading And Leeds Festivals: are you going this year? Well, the excitement officially begins here, as in the new issue we’ve got a world exclusive interview with The Cure’s Robert Smith about how the band, over 30 years after playing the Reading Rock Festival, are returning to top the bill this summer. We’ve also got chats with Kasbian, The Maccabees and Florence + The machine, who will also be heading to the sites – and a chance to win tickets. It’s so comprehensive we may as well have attached some free campsite mud.

Another band playing Reading And Leeds will be The Cribs – and in the issue we’ve got their exclusive comeback feature. Turns out not all has been well with Ryan Jarman, who candidly chats to us about his mental turmoil, being drastically ill, and how his brothers helped bring him back from the brink to record their new album. It’s the must-read Cribs feature of the year.

Not to be out-done in the comeback stakes, Mr Jack White III has also gotten back on stage – we’ve got the first pictures of his first solo gig in Nashville. Check it out for a full report, the setlists, and details of his new bands. Yes, bands: he’s got an all-female band and an all-male one. Some people want it all, eh…

As well as all this we’ve got the NME verdict on Paul Weller’s new album, the inside story of the Occupy movement and where it goes from here and, perhaps most brilliantly, new words from Noel Gallagher about why Man City striker Mario Balotelli is his Godlike Genius.
