Students of the world, envy Cardiff. They are winning at student-dom. And they have Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Gatiss to thank.
That’s because the fourth series of the BBC update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective series – starring Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, Martin Freeman as his sidekick Watson and Gatiss as his brother Mycroft – is currently being filmed in Cardiff. Social media became all a-fluster yesterday when the news broke that actor Toby Jones has been cast as a villain, and students in the port city are riding that sweet, refreshing wave of excitement. They’ve even given the situation a nickname – “setlock”.
Except – oh dear – it’s come at rather a bad time. Exam time, to be exact. These Cardiff students are wondering just how they can be expected to revise when popular BCC show Sherlock is filming right there on their doorstep. A fair question, students of Cardiff. You have our sympathies, though perhaps feasting on the sight of Cumberbatch’s delicious cheekbones will ease your pain, if not improve your exam results.
BENELOCK was on the ball
But @saltedtrash was feeling #thefear
While Tessa was frustrated (remember your apostrophes in that exam, Tessa)
And tutuwenqian couldn’t contain her excitement
Though Mark Gatiss was keeping it steezy
For your consideration: Doctor Who is also filmed in Cardiff. Prospective students, bear that in mind when sending off your applications, yeah?
