How To Throw The Ultimate ‘Gilmore Girls’ Marathon Party

Watch the show's new episodes the Lorelai and Rory way

It’s only a couple of days until Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life becomes available on Netflix, bringing Lorelai, Rory and the characters of Stars Hollow back to our screens for four 90-minute instalments. Such a hotly-anticipated and glorious occasion deserves to be celebrated widely – here’s how to throw your own Gilmore Girls marathon party in true Gilmore fashion.

What to eat

No Gilmore Girls marathon would be complete without food – Lorelai and Rory’s epicurian pursuits are a major theme in each series. Because there’s so much chowing down in the programme, your A Year In The Life viewing can cover all the culinary delights of its original run – Richard and Emily’s elegant Friday night dinners, Sookie’s insane feasts and Luke’s simple burgers, pancakes and fries. The most Gilmore way to eat while watching though would obviously be recreating the pizza and Chinese takeout-fuelled movie nights, complete with sweet treats like US candy Red Vines, pie, chocolate and Pop Tarts. If there’s a vegetable in sight you’re doing it wrong.

What to drink

Coffee, and lots of it.

What to wear

One of the best things about Gilmore Girls is how comfy it all feels – it’s basically the ultimate series to curl up under a blanket and binge watch on grey days. Be at your most comfortable during your marathon party by pulling on some snug flannel pyjamas, just like Rory would.

How to decorate

Stick up some “no cell phones” signs if you want your guests to obey (or pretend to obey, then ignore) the rules of Luke’s Diner. Blow up pink and red balloons if you want to recreate Rory’s 16th birthday party. Put a load of cushions, throws and blankets in your living room to make things as hygge as the Gilmore’s house.

Who to invite

While the joy of Gilmore Girls deserves to be spread amongst as many people as possible, you might want to choose your guestlist carefully. One of the most anticipated returns in TV requires only a good-time gang – people who aren’t gonna pick holes in every storyline or complain about how fast everyone talks. Save these people for later viewings. Surround yourself with fellow fans and those strong of stomach (they’ll need to be to consume all the food above) and enjoy what should be a wonderful comeback.
