Normally I’d reject any proposals for the Daily Download that look like this as a matter of principle.
But the idea of two guys going round dressed as Goldie Lookin’ Brontosaurus and Klaxons’ shrink under the name Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, with a list of totally enormous extinct dinosaurs in their MySpace band members, just seemed too ludicrous to ignore. And with Greco-Roman Music (Joe Hot Chip, Buraka Som Sistema, Grovesnor) backing them up – plus this video of sublime sample plundering and flagrant duck abuse – it becomes clear they’re more than worthy of our attention.
Like Hot Chip gone funny in the sun, the TEED sound is a playful electro underpinned by seismic bass lines, an unpredictable and irresistible ’80s-raping squelch of ideas.
They’ve had some love on NME Radio already as well as Annie Mac’s Friday night mash up – the one where roofers from Bedminster text in from the M32 to tell her if they’re “raving or behaving” tonight. What is it with radio DJs and producers coming up with increasingly inane rhyming ways of telling the rest of the country you’re going to have it fucking large tonight? Anyway, download this and let me know if it’s a hit or shit.
