Oh, it has been a long time hasn’t it? Two and a half years have past since we were last treated with new music from Two Door Cinema Club on EP ‘Changing Of The Seasons’ back in September 2013 – but if recent events are anything to go by, the trio are well and truly ready to make their much-anticipated comeback.
Earlier this week the band played three ‘unannounced’ shows across Ireland in Belfast, Galway and Dublin under the name ‘Tudor Cinema Club’. The act were billed as a covers band by promoters but fans noticed that the reference was indeed a throwback to the cinema venue in Bangor, Northern Ireland (Tudor Cinema Club) which inspired the band’s name and suspicions were raised.
Further hints were dropped by the band in a Facebook video last week advertising the show accompanied by the quote ‘Even better than the real thing’ from U2’s Bono provoking much speculation as to whether the real band would be playing on the night.
Luckily, for those who faced the very real possibility of watching a Two Door Cinema Club tribute band instead, they were actually treated to the band’s first live shows since December 2013 and saw the arena-beating band in a set of tiny Irish venues. The band played 18-song sets at each show made up of first album bangers ‘Undercover Martyn’, ‘What You Know’ and ‘I Can Talk’ as well as Beacon tracks ‘Sun’, ‘Pyramid’ and plenty more from the boys’ discography.
No new music was premiered unfortunately, but we won’t be waiting long as their third album has been confirmed to be finished and festival slots at Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds have already been announced.
Needless to say, fans in attendance were suitably impressed.
Even the band were excited to be back
Welcome back, boys.
