Watch Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry’s Brilliant Response To A Crowd Member Who Asked Her To Marry Him

Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry has spoken at length in the past about the misogyny she is subjected to on a regular basis as the frontperson in a high-profile band. Rather than being the safe space you might expect a Chvrches show to be, then, one fan recently made the unwise decision to propose to Mayberry at one of her band’s recent live shows. “Marry me!” the man yelled out, to which Lauren had a perfect response:

“Oh, come on – what’s the hit rate on that? When you go to public places and ask women you don’t know if they want to wed you. Does that work out well for you, sir? Also, I assume that because you’re here, that you know about our band? I’m very grumpy, and I don’t want that shit.”

“Thank you everybody else, sorry for shaming that one person but if nobody tells you, then you’re never going to know. Luckily for me right now, I have a microphone and you don’t so it works in my favour at this particular juncture”.

When another male fan yelled “Why are you grumpy, Lauren?”, Mayberry responded by giving the individual the middle finger before launching into a performance of the band’s song ‘Playing Dead’.
