Watch Evaline’s Video ‘Hours’

Right, so as I’m sure you’re probably all aware, I’m a massive Placebo fan. I know they’ve kind of been m.i.a. lately, (hopefully) holed up in their recording studio writing new music. My love affair with the band goes way back to when I was still living Stateside. I remember one rather tiny gig at The Roxy in Boston (I think it was 2007?) – it was my first time catching them live. While pretty much every thought in my mind was “AH I get to see Brian Molko in the flesh”, I was also extremely impressed by their support act, Evaline.

From what I remember, they had an electric cello and frontman Richard Perry was jumping onto speakers like a crazed spider monkey. It was great. And then a couple of years ago, Placebo poached their drummer Steve Forrest to replace their own, thus continuing the bands’ relationship.

I caught Evaline at The Lexington last night (supporting Planes, Steve Forrest’s new side project – which was also great, considering it was their first live show ever). The electric cello may be nixed from the set (or at least it was last night) and the stage was a bit too tiny for six grown men to tackle speakers, but they still pumped out this infectiously raw enegery that proved that guitar music is not dead.

So, whether or not you’re a Placebo fan, these guys are ones to watch out for. Their debut album ‘Woven Material’ came out on Monday and they just performed at Hard Rock Calling over the weekend. They’ll also be making loads of UK festival appearances this summer and will be playing at the Bull And Gate in London tonight.
