Following Those Dancing Days’ rather special Britney homage in yesterday’s Wichita post, we’ve got another exclusive cover for you: Frankie & The Heartstrings’ take on Brian Eno’s ‘Needle In The Camel’s Eye’, which is joined by classic tracks from Lovvers and Lissy Trullie’s take on Hot Chip on today’s EP.
Taking on the opening track from Eno’s first debut album after splitting with Roxy Music is a bold move, but their scuzzed up version works pretty well. Maybe they could take on ‘Baby’s On Fire’ next. Or ‘Sky Saw’ – now that would be a challenge. Lissy Trullie does the opposite on Hot Chip’s ‘Ready For The Floor’, subduing the original and moulding it into a nonchalant punk rollick. Finally Lovvers twist their abrasive hardcore into a retro Ramonesy type shape for ‘OCD Go Go Girls’.
Next week sees four special shows at the Garage in London to celebrate 10 years of Wichita:
July 12th – Lissy Trullie, Those Dancing Days, Legionnaire
July 13th – First Aid Kit, Peggy Sue, Meg Baird
July 14th – The Cribs, Sky Larkin, Lovvers
July 15th – Los Campesinos!, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Johnny Foreigner
What do you think of the tracks?
