There’s not many bands that will actually put their career on hold while they finish school. In fact, it’s usually the opposite. When we last spoke to Blaenavon they discussed how they had to juggle their studies and being one of the UK’s most engrossing new groups. Now, they’ve deferred their uni spots and are putting everything into the band.
They’re right to, having signed to the esteemed Transgressive Records label, the group have been steadily releasing hits for nearly three years now – but nothing they’ve done so far has been as impressive as their latest single ‘Let’s Pray’. It sounds very Maccabees with its ever twisting guitars and heartbroken vocals – but hopefully it’ll slot in nicely on their “pretty much written” debut album, produced by one Jim Abbiss of Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club).
Below, we’ve got first dibs on the brand new video to accompany that song. Here’s what director Claes Nordwall had to say about the dark new video.
“I wanted to bring the exploitation and revenge-film style into a current scenario. Taking a loose cue from Abel Ferarra’s Ms. 45 (1981). This cold blooded / calm tempered girl being a dystopian example of an increasingly detached youth who spend too much time online. It felt like a suitable plot for the song’s dark lyrical themes.”
