New Music Of The Day: Goat Girl – ‘Country Sleaze’

How many bands end up trending on Twitter when they drop their first single online? Very few. But Goat Girl did. As news broke about the end of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s marriage yesterday afternoon – tucked in just nicely above the hashtag #Brangelina on Twitter’s trending topics sat one of South London’s most exciting new bands.

The single arrived as the teenage quartet announced that they had signed to Rough Trade records, currently home to bands like Mystery Jets, Parquet Courts and Palma Violets. Their debut track ‘Country Sleaze’ which you can hear below, will act as one half of a double A-Side due for release on October 7. ‘Sleaze’ is probably an apt description for the gritty new track which packs a sludgy bassline, jangling guitar and some pure unchecked, uncensored criticism of the world right now: “I’m disgusted, I’m ashamed of this so-called human race”.

Later this year the group will head out on the road with a mixture of their own shows, support shows and the last few festivals of the year. Going by the giddy reception for their debut track it appears they could be shows you deffo need to get yourself down to.
