New Music Of The Day: Harlea – ‘Miss Me’

What do we know about Harlea? Right now, virtually nothing. Last Friday, the North Londoner dropped her debut song, the stomping ‘Miss Me’. In less than a week though, she’s racked up a near 100k streams across streaming platforms without a single interview.

Perhaps it’s easy to say that success came from some helpful playlist placings from Spotify and Apple on their New Music Friday lists – but really, it’s because she’s made a formidable and pulsating entrance. ‘Miss Me’ isn’t too dissimilar from Arctic Monkeys’ leather-clad glam-rock moments on ‘AM’, but with a set of piercing, powerful vocals from the 22-year-old musician, she’s setting herself up for a mighty fine 2017. This is what Harlea had to say about ‘Miss Me’.

“The song is about the intense pleasure you get from a relationship, regardless of its consequences. Giving into an obsession, it describes the reckless abandon with which you are drawn in. ‘Miss Me’ expresses an emotional addiction which is felt when you are separated – even a destructive relationship can pale next to the pain of not being together.”
