October 2013. Destruction Unit frontman Ryan Rousseau is hanging by his legs from the lighting rig above east London venue The Old Blue Last’s tiny stage. As he smashes his guitar into the ceiling, his band hammer out horrible psychedelic punk behind him and the crowd convulses towards them. The Arizona five-piece were in the UK celebrating the release of their Sacred Bones debut ‘Deep Trip’, and they’ve been on tour pretty much ever since.
Two years of pent up energy results in follow up ‘Negative Feedback Resistor’, a heavier, louder and more aggressive record than ‘Deep Trip’. ‘Disinfect’ and ‘Proper Decay’ form a formidable opening, layering dense noise over hardcore punk foundations. But describing how Destruction Unit sound is almost futile: the best way to sum up this new album is the feeling you get after six-minute closer ‘The Upper Hand’ hisses to a close. Stream it in full below and see for yourself.
‘Negative Feedback Resistor’ is released on September 18 via Sacred Bones Records. Pre-order it here
