New Music Of The Day: Hooton Tennis Club – ‘Katy-Anne Bellis’

Admit it, the last house party you hosted was a bit of a stinker. The music was probably a bit naff, the loo got blocked and someone definitely broke that mirror in your living room on purpose. Really then, you need to get yourself down to one of Hooton Tennis Club’s hedonistic living room ‘soirees’ by the looks of it.

For the accompanying video to ‘Katy-Anne Bellis’, the Merseyside lads have thrown the party we all want to be invited to, with the aid of endless bubbles, hula-hoops and a pretty fine house band. On the track, they’ve used an infectious jangly indie pop riff that wouldn’t have been amiss on an early Coral record, as well as the coming-of-age realisations that The La’s captured so well – but that doesn’t detract from the good-times vibes so evident in the video.

Vocalist Ryan said the song and video were inspired by his former flat-mate. “We decided to throw a soiree in the living room of the enchanted ‘Garlic Mansion’ for our song inspired by the wonderful Katy-Anne! The house she used to live in – a house of plenty – never a dull moment! People come and people go, and in this house all are celebrated. ¡Viva la garlic mansion!”

The song will appear on new album ‘Big Box Of Chocolates’, which is out on October 21 via Heavenly Records and was produced by former Orange Juice man Edwyn Collins. You can also catch them on their extensive UK tour at the following dates:
