Who’s heard the band that Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo did before Daft Punk? They were a three-piece with Laurent Brancowitz from Pheonix. They were called Darlin’, named after and inspired by The Beach Boys song. They had one release on Stereolab’s Duophonic label in 1993. It was a split EP with Huggy Bear and Stereolab . It wasn’t that great to be honest. My friend Piers has a copy. It costs like a squillion pounds if you can get it now.
In fact, it’d be fair to say that the Parisians had made more great electronic music than great rock’n’roll over the past 20 years.
Jamaica are part of the extended Ed Banger fam. This, their new single, is produced by Xavier de Rosnay from Justice. They make Catchy Indie Pop. It’s pretty cool. In a way it still sounds quite French. In a way even, you can kinda hear something in that feels Ed Bangery, it’s weird. But make no mistake, Catchy Indie Pop it is.
Look, even their tees look a bit Kavinsky-esque.
They’re giving us a premiere of their debut vid soon, so stay tuned. Five euros if you can guess who directed it.
