Listen To A Sampler From Bayonet Records, A New Label From Beach Fossils’ Dustin Payseur And Captured Tracks’ Katie Garcia

Bayonet Records is a new label from Beach Fossils frontman Dustin Payseur and former Captured Tracks manager Katie Garcia, and pretty exciting it is too: from throaty Atlanta janglers Warehouse to New York experimenters Flouride, the label has only been going a matter of month, but already their roster’s a hot-bed of hazy, spectral new talent. “We want to put out beautiful records from artists with integrity and talent,” say the pair, having funded the imprint in part with money from their wedding: “we were like, nobody give us gifts!” Payseur told the Fader in November, asking their friends and family instead for cash donations towards founding the label.

From Mac DeMarco and Perfect Pussy to Juan Wauters and DIIV, Captured Tracks released a tonne of incredible artists in the four years it was under Garcia’s stewardship, while we’ve been fans of Payseur’s floaty creations as Beach Fossils for ages. So it was probably to expected that we’d love this first sampler from Bayonet. Hopefully you will too. Give it a listen and check out the duo’s guide to the artists it features below.

Warehouse – ‘Omission’
“Warehouse are a five piece band from Atlanta. Their debut album Tesseract is a slight departure from some of their earlier new wave material, and highlights more classic rock elements, matched by Elaine’s guttural vocals. We feel really honored to be putting this out. The whole record makes me want to sprint through an entire marathon.”

Jerry Paper – ‘Destroy’
“Jerry Paper is the one-man band of a guy named Lucas Nathan. Nathan’s latest full-length under the Jerry Paper moniker, Carousel, combines his fascination with synthetic reproductions of “real” instruments with his own brand of philosophical meditations. The album furthers the effort to make “goofy” sounds into “serious” music through the juxtaposition of idiosyncratic lyrics, sounds, and structures within the “grammar” of pop music.”

Red Sea – ‘On the Marble’
“Like Warehouse, Red Sea are from Atlanta. The band is comprised of four friends Kyle, Mick, Patrick and Stephen. We describe it as beautiful sonic chaos. Red Sea’s latest EP, In The Salon, showcases its taste through a bricolage of pop tracks, all of which were recorded live with electric guitars, synthesizers, bass and drums. The boys sing words that humor auto-suggestive techniques over synthi-mutant ballads & fragmented rhythms which emulate the digitally contrived worlds of sound that they create.”

Fluoride – ‘Sleep’
“Fluoride is an experimental project from NYC consisting of Dustin Payseur (Beach Fossils) and Rene Nuñez (Herzog Rising). After playing together in the noise-punk band Divorce Money, the two banded together in 2012. The motivation was to combine the harsh cacophony of industrial music with the larger textures of contemporary production styles.”
