Joan shun the winter with glittering synth-pop gem ‘Tokyo’

The last time we heard from Arkansas duo Joan, in July, they’d just put out ‘Love Somebody Like You’ – a synthy, head-over-heels ballad that sounded like an unofficial prequel to The 1975’s masterful ‘Somebody Else’.

The Little Rock band’s songwriting pedigree hasn’t slipped on their heady new track ‘Tokyo’. It’s all gated drums, funky guitar lines and sweltering synth blasts as singer Alan Thomas sings out wide-eyed YOLO lines like: “We can go to Tokyo on the first flight out tomorrow, don’t know what the future holds, I just want to feel this moment“.
