As Friendly Fires anchor and NME Under The Radar columnist Jack Savidge recently pointed out, south London newcomer Love Ssega is certainly one to watch in 2016. His fine track ‘Minds’, Savidge wrote, was a “winding multi-part journey” which took in elements of !!!, Tom Tom Club Arthur Russell.
Today, we’re premiering a frankly eye-watering collaboration between Ssega and fellow London 2016 hopefuls, Formation. Will and Matt Ritson have transformed the original track, a funk-laden slowie called ‘Pray For Love’ into something that feels like it should have come straight outta late 70s New York. Gloriously vibrant from start to finish, it’s all B-boy breaks and cascading, fractured vocals – and funnily enough, it doesn’t sound a million miles away from the kind of pop Savidge himself is used to churning out with Ed(d)’s Macfarlane and Gibson in Friendly Fires.
