If Partybaby’s last single, ‘Your Old Man’ sounded like FIDLAR covering The Strokes, then follow-up track ‘I Don’t Wanna Wait’ is a creation that’s even more basic.
‘…Wait’, with its cooing backing vocals and split-second breaks is basically a hop scotch, ingredient-nabbing perma-chorus that dips diligently into rock’s vast history – a bit of the ‘Twist & Shout’ crescendo here, a touch of full-throttle 2002 indie production fuzz there, and always with everything turned up to 11.
It’s in no way big, or clever – but it is kind of catchy:
Partybaby are in the UK for the first time next month. They play the following dates:
May 21 | The Great Escape
May 23 | The Lock Tavern, Camden, London
May 24 | The Victoria, Dalston, London (w/ Diet Cig)
May 27 | The Finsbury, London (RFB – Popular Culture club night)
Speaking of the shows, they sent us this caps lock-heavy quote:
“WE FUCKING LOVE PLAYING SHOWS AND PLAYING FOR PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD IS A DREAM. UK FANS ARE ALWAYS PERFECTLY IMPOLITE, AND BRUTALLY HONEST, NO FAKE SMILES IN LDN. EITHER IT WORKS OR IT DOESN’T AND WE LIKE THAT!”
