New Music Of The Day: Rotten Mind

‘I’m Alone Even With You’ is a great title for an album, right? And Rotten Mind’s sleeve is pretty nifty too – distorted like something that might have turned up in Sniffin’ Glue or Sounds back in the day.

Lead single ‘I Don’t Want To Be The One’ taps into those aesthetics – being built on a riff that’s pure Buzzcocks and vocals that feel like they’d slot in perfectly alongside the discordant grottiness of Eagulls or Bad Breeding.

The band, who come from Uppsala in Sweden, have roots in hardcore (some members also play in Agent Attitude), but they stuck to more flimsy punk rules when it came to making ‘I’m Alone Even With You’: they played their debut gig in February, recorded their first demo in March and finished the album in two days straight in April. And in an indie world where over-production is king at present, it all sounds remarkably coherent and exciting.

‘I’m Alone Even With You’ is out this Friday (September 25) on Lövely Records. There’s a European tour for the band planned for October and November, although sadly it’s lacking in UK dates at present:
