Stream ‘Pith’, Courtship Ritual’s Otherworldly New Album – NME Exclusive

Out digitally on July 22, Courtship Ritual’s album ‘Pith’ should appeal to anyone who’s ever been won over by Jenny Lee Lindberg’s spidery Warpaint basslines, or the ethereal intensity of Cocteau Twins.

The duo – Jared Olmsted and Monica Salazar – were featured on Godmode’s superb Common Interests tape earlier in the year alongside Yvette and Shamir, and Nick Sylvester from the label helped them record ‘Pith’ at Brooklyn’s Silent Barn and Sound City studios.

Nick had this to say about them:

“The thing I loved about this band the first time I heard them — January 2013 — was how unassuming it all sounded. The music is so spare and naive, not unlike the first Beach House record. Usually there’s a drum loop, a monophonic guitar or synth loop, and a vocal melody. There’s very little to these songs but somehow they each feel like their own world.”

I won’t argue with that too much. Stream ‘Pith’ in full below, and head to Godmode’s Tumblr for more info on the label (and @courtshipritual for the band).
