‘Kingdom Of The Beasts’ is the first cut off a new EP from Peckham-based songwriter Tony Volker. It’s a beguiling kick-off track that showcases Volker’s creative elan: sampling acoustic instruments and his own warm, haunting vocals to create something both very human and experimental. “I’ve learned to bare my teeth,” he sings while expressing ideas around independence and survival amid sonic pulses and phases that augment each lyric. Cited influences include Jon Hopkins, Ori Alboher, Glass Animals, Pusha T, Thom Yorke and 70s soul artist Darondo and, from the addictive sounds of ‘Kingdom Of The Beasts’, the rest of the new EP will be just as arresting. An up-and-coming new artist to keep your peepers on.
‘Kingdom Of The Beasts’ is on the forthcoming ‘Break & Reshape’ EP to be released Spring 2015. Buy the track here.
