The Buzz – This Week’s Hottest New Bands (January 24, 2015)

Here we are with the 17 buzziest bands of the week, as taken form NME’s Radar section in current issue of the mag (January 24, 2015).

Pick of the bunch for me are new London fourpiece The Moon (pictured above). I was lucky enough to be invited to a rehearsal with them late last year, and was sufficiently impressed. Some of their tunes (not the one below, admittedly) had a kind of Slits-esque groove to them, while others, like the brilliant ‘Eureka Moment’ remind me of Britpop’s more sultry moments. Basically, if Savages icy intensity leaves you cold you could do worse than let The Moon warm you up.

Elsewhere we’ve got a tip from Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney, who says this about Aussie folk duo Luluc:

“I think the record ‘Passer By’ by Luluc is really incredible. I definitely have my Nick Drake moments, and my Bill Fay ones, and I really love that very stark, very direct thing. I played with Elliott Smith years ago, and I see them doing that same thing – music that once you hear it, you can’t live without it.”

Also, shout outs to Horrid, Prince and Band Practice who aren’t on Soundcloud so couldn’t be added below – read up on them (and everybody else) in the magazine now.
