The great Childhood feature in Radar’s Top 50 Tracks Of 2013, and today they’re back with a new video for their latest opus, ‘Pinballs’.
This one was recorded as part of producer Dan Carey’s Speedy Wunderground project, where he gets artists – perhaps against their will (I’ve never quite worked it out) – to record a brand new track in just 24 hours. It could all go horribly wrong, of course, but weirdly it never seems to. ‘Pinballs’ is probably my favourite song the project has yielded so far (closely followed by ‘The Bride’ by Toy and Natasha Khan). It’s released on vinyl – 250 copies only – on January 13.
This video was shot by fast-rising director Dan Kendall during Childhood’s recent tour dates with Palma Violets. The best bit comes around the four minute mark when the track goes completely crazy, backwards, cool and weird, before finally settling on singer Ben Romans Hopcraft slipping into his best Pink Floyd (circa ‘Meddle’) impression. Truly impressive stuff…for just 24 hours work.
Childhood’s next confirmed live date is at London’s Electrowerkz on February 19, as part of the NME Awards Shows with Austin, Texas.
