Who’s Your Favourite New Band?

The new issue of NME is a new music special, crammed with tips from writers and musicians alike. Palma Violets grace the cover. Matt Wilkinson reckons they’re “the best thing to happen to British music in years”, and his piece is well worth a read (check out the band’s debut single here if you’ve not done already).

Elsewhere in the issue, Grimes raves about K-pop, The Maccabees’ Felix White recommends The Crookes, Justin Young raves about Mikal Cronin, and Carl Barat waxes lyrical about Eyes On Film. And here’s Ben Lovett of Mumford And Sons:

I’m going to be cheeky here and pick one band and one solo artist. The band is Montreal’s Half Moon Run – potentially one of the most important bands debuting an album this year. It’s progresive without being pretentious. And my favourite new songwriter is Joe Banfi from Sheffield. He’s dark, edgy, serene and beautiful.
