A few months ago I excitedly wrote about Yak, a new London-based band who were kicking up a bit of a storm in industry circles. They didn’t really have any fans of their own at that point, or even a song online, but since then things have picked up properly for them.
A load of London gigs towards the end of last year were well attended, including the one where the video below was filmed, at the Shacklewell Arms. ‘Hungry Heart’ is the first live footage to emerge from the band, and it showcases everything that’s great about them – from singer Oli Burslem’s McCulloch-meets-Morrison drawl to the Eighties Matchbox intensity that seems to fuel everything they do at present. The band have a smattering of gigs lined up over the next few months, including one for us on February 3 supporting The Districts at as part of the NME Awards Shows with Austin, Texas.
