Watch all the best bits of the VO5 NME Awards crammed into five minutes

It's like a delicious juicy concentrate

Holy mackerel – what a night it was. The VO5 NME Awards has rocked and indeed rolled at the O2 Brixton Academy, as the great, good and even better stars of the moment turned out for bad behaviour, acceptance speeches and, if we’re being totally honest with you, yet more bad behaviour.

Loyle Carner dedicated his Best British Solo Artist award supported by VO5 to “all the kids with ADHD”, Charli XCX sent a video in which she accepted her Best Track award supported by Estrella Galicia for the amazing ‘Boys’ from the comfort of an open-top sportscar and Kasabian emphasised the importance of saving small venues. Meanwhile, Haim and Shirley Manson emphasised the importance of smashing down doors too often closed to women in music.

You wanted performances? We had ’em! Pale Waves performed their slinky pop delight ‘There’s A Honey’, Alt-J played the kooky ‘In Cold Blood’ and Liam Gallagher battered his way through a set that kicked off with ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’ and saw the Godlike Genius bow out with ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’, by way of newbies ‘Wall Of Glass’ and ‘Greedy Soul’.

His acceptance speech for the top honour of the night was, of course, sweary and provocative. “NME Awards – right, I wanna dedicated this to me mam,” he said. “Margaret Gallagher – the one and fucking only. I also wanna dedicate it to the army on songwriters that I’ve got – past and present. I wanna dedicate it to my universal crew – the parka monkeys. As you fucking were!”

The V05 NME Awards is always one of the biggest nights of the year and 2018’s was a classic. Tables were danced on, pizza was eaten by the bucketload and the music world was well and truly celebrated. Now, can someone please pass the painkillers and energy drink?
