Halsey set to star in new TV series ‘The Player’s Table’

Halsey is also set to produce the series

Halsey has been cast in the forthcoming television series, The Player’s Table.

The singer will also serve as the series’ producer, as per The Hollywood Reporter. The show is based off the 2020 Jessica Goodman novel, They Wish They Were Us. At the time of writing, the series is without a network.

Halsey will star in the show alongside actress Sydney Sweeney, noted for her roles in Euphoria and The Handmaid‘s Tale. The two previously collaborated in Halsey’s music video for her 2019 track, ‘Graveyard.’

Halsey hit it off with Sweeney on the set of the video, and Sweeney – who also serves as the series’ executive producer – reached out asking if she’d like to be involved.

Sweeney plays high school senior Jill Newman. The Reporter explains that Sweeney’s protagonist “works to uncover the truth about her best friend’s death three years ago.”

Halsey, meanwhile, will play the character of Rachel Colloway. She is described by the Reporter as “a formidable, emotionally troubled young woman who ignites Jill’s journey.”

The series will mark Halsey’s first major acting role. She has previously acted in sketches for Saturday Night Live, which she hosted in 2019, as well as making a cameo in the 2018 remake of A Star is Born.

Halsey has also performed small roles as a voice actor, including a 2017 episode of American Dad! and the 2018 film Teen Titans Go! To The Movies.

This announcement comes after Halsey released her third studio album, ‘Manic,’ at the beginning of the year.

In a review of the album, NME wrote that the album is “as thrilling as it is vulnerable,” and “her best effort yet.”

“This is Ashley’s world; it’s really nice to meet her,” it read.
