Kakie releases chill party anthem ‘afterparty’

The song will be "part of a greater storyline" that is currently in the works

Filipino singer-songwriter Kakie – real name Frankie Pangilinan – has released her brand-new single, ‘afterparty’.

Released just in time for the New Year’s, the song features the 20-year-old singer singing about creating a connection at a late-night party. “Why don’t we just talk to each other? / Why are we all so scared to be lovers?” Kakie croons over the laid-back, R&B-inspired beat.

Kakie first posted the lyrics and a video of herself singing the song on her writing Twitter account @kakiewrites back in March. In a tweet on December 29, she wrote on her official handle, “one down, forty to go,” referencing the series of snippets and notes she’s been posting on her alternate account.

The singer also apologised to her fans for not releasing as many songs as she initially intended in 2020. “guys i’m rly sorry i meant to put out so much more music this year but i promise i’ve been working extra hard to prepare everything coming up and afterparty is just a fraction of it,” she tweeted.

“this is rly what i want to do for the rest of my life just bear w me hold on right we’re nearly beginning.” Kakie also teased that the song will be “part of a greater storyline” along with her previous singles.

‘afterparty’ is Kakie’s third solo single so far, following last January’s ‘battlescars’. In 2018, she released her debut single ‘tyl’, along with ‘Selfish’, her collaborative track with Luis Villanueva and Cub Fuque.
