Malaysian R&B singer Alextbh has shared a cover of emerging star Olivia Rodrigo’s hit debut single ‘Drivers License’.
The Sarawak-born artist uploaded the poignant rendition of the hit on Youtube on Sunday (January 24).
Much like the original, Alextbh’s version of the ballad is laden with bare-bones and soothing piano instrumentation, topped with his raspy vocals. On Twitter, the singer said he “kinda wanted something soothing that u can fall asleep to”.

Alextbh’s remake of ‘drivers license’ follows his stripped-down rendition of Mariah Carey’s ‘My All’ released in September last year.
Last July, Alextbh – real name Alex Bong – released his six-track debut EP ‘The Chase’, which made NME’s list of the 25 best Asian albums of 2020.
“If you could touch Alextbh’s debut EP, it would feel like velvet,” wrote NME‘s Adrian Yap. “There is a classy smoothness to the way he negotiates these painful tales of love, lust and relationship longevity on ‘The Chase’, a record that is both stunningly beautiful and brutally honest.”
‘Drivers License’ has broken several records since its release on January 8. It went to Number One in both the UK and US, and beat Ed Sheeran’s record for the highest single-day streams in British history for a non-Christmas song.

“It’s absolutely surreal, I truly don’t feel like my brain can process all of it, I see all the numbers, but it doesn’t really sink in totally, I’m sort of in a state of disbelief,” the 17-year-old Rodrigo told NME last week.
Best known for her acting role as Paige Olvera on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark, Rodrigo who signed with Interscope and Geffen Records last year, has cited Lorde and Taylor Swift as her biggest musical influences.
