Filipino pop rock band Callalily have released a new single, titled ‘Ilaw’.
Released on Monday (January 11), ‘Ilaw’ is a hopeful track that aims to inspire listeners to stay strong throughout the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and its resulting restrictions.
Written by US-based Filipino composer and songwriter Anna San Juan, ‘Ilaw’ also serves as a reflection for the band as they deal with the absence of live shows, being unable to meet their fans and even their bandmates in person due to the ongoing lockdown.
The track, which spans just over three minutes, features a slow build, as instruments are introduced one by one, leading up to the song’s inspirational climax. Stream Callalily’s ‘Ilaw’ below.
‘Ilaw’ is the band’s first track in over a year, with their last release being 2019’s ‘Reserba’ and ‘Ex’ featuring Yeng Constantino. The band has released five studio albums to date, with the last being 2015’s ‘Greetings From Callalily’.
Callalily first formed in the early 2000s, and released their debut album ‘Destination XYZ’ in 2006. The album, which features tracks such as ‘Stars’, ‘Take My Hand’ and ‘Sanctuary’, was certified platinum and propelled the band to mainstream success.
To date, the band has over 719,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, and multiple music videos that have garnered well over 20million views and counting.
