Listen to NIKI’s melancholic new Christmas song, ‘Hallway Weather’

The track was recorded and mixed in three days

88rising’s NIKI has released a new single, ‘Hallway Weather’, ahead of the Christmas holiday season.

On the mellow track, which includes festive bell embellishments and slide guitar, the Indonesian artist sings about celebrating the holidays alone and wishing she could spend it with loved ones. Hear it below:

Ahead of the track’s release, NIKI revealed she wrote the song less than two weeks ago. She wrote, “Literally wrote it on Dec 3rd, somehow got it recorded, mixed, & mastered in 3 days. Straight up edited the artwork on my phone. A whole Christmas miracle!!!”

She went on to give the track more context, saying: “In all honesty I was out of love with music all year & this song made me remember why I love it again. As many of us drifted far from ourselves this year I naturally found a longing to wade back places I remember feeling most like myself. This style of music & songwriting is one of those few places. It is genuine & it is true.”

Earlier this September, NIKI released her debut album, ‘Moonchild’. In a four-star review, NME’s MC Galang wrote that the record “chips away at perceived limitations on not just NIKI’s potential as an artist, but her identity as well”.

More recently, NIKI collaborated with Japanese pop band Sekai No Owari in November for the band’s single, ‘Forever’. The track, performed entirely in English, featured on Sekai No Owari’s English album ‘Chameleon’, which was released late last month.
