Malaysia’s Anugerah Lagu Indie awards open for 2021 song nominations

The grand final will take place in October, and will feature the finalists performing their songs live

Malaysia’s Anugerah Lagu Indie (ALI) awards is now open for 2021 song nominations.

The inaugural ALI awards took place in October 2020, with an aim of providing a platform to recognise independent songwriters, lyricists, musicians and singers in the Malaysian music industry. The second instalment will be held this October.

The second stage of song nominations is open from now until March 31. All Malaysian indie songwriters, lyricists, musicians and singers with songs produced from August 14, 2020 to August 13, 2021 are eligible. The songs must be free from publishing bond with any recording companies.

“ALI2021 will be bigger and better than last year,” said Loy Ekzan of youth media brand Rakita, which co-organises ALI. “So come join us and nominate your favourite songs.”

ALI2021’s first round of song nominations began on New Year’s Day. A total of 50 songs will be shortlisted from each nomination stage to gather the Top 200. The best 30 will compete in the semifinals in September, which will be broadcasted live on Anugerah Lagu Indie’s YouTube channel.

The grand final in October will feature 12 selected songs performed live on the same platform.

Last year’s ALI saw alternative pop trio Margosa come out tops with their song ‘Penawar’.  Nusarasa came in second place with ‘Mesra’, followed by indie rock band Orkes A Hizadin with ‘Menunggu’.
