James Reid and Nancy McDonie’s show ‘The Soulmate Project’ is coming in 2021

After production was halted due to the pandemic

After cancelling production earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, TV series The Soulmate Project starring Filipino singer-actor James Reid and MOMOLAND member Nancy McDonie will be pushing through in 2021.

In a montage posted on December 20, Dreamscape Entertainment confirmed the news through a teaser trailer including photos of Reid and McDonie. New filming and premiere dates have yet to be announced.

The Soulmate Project will be set in a fictional version of the Philippines where the government enacts Republic Act 143, a law that matches citizens with their soulmates. Reid will be playing Jayson and McDonie will be playing Binna.

The Soulmate Project was announced in 2019. In an interview with ABS-CBN News last year, director and writer Antoinette Jadaone said the series would have 13 episodes and be more akin to a Korean drama.

“It’s not like how we do teleseryes [in the Philippines] where you do it per script every day, with a weekly script,” she said.

The cast and crew started working on the series in February 2020, but work was postponed indefinitely due to coronavirus lockdowns in the Philippines and the franchise denial and shutdown of ABS-CBN in May.

Dreamscape Entertainment also posted a sneak peek of Reid and McDonie in a workshop on its Instagram account back in February. Watch it below.

Reid rose to fame in 2010 when he joined Pinoy Big Brother. He later starred in shows like On the Wings of Love and Til I Met You and films like Never Not Love You and the Filipino adaptation of Miss Granny.

In 2017, Reid released his debut album ‘Palm Dreams’ and introduced his independent music label Careless (formerly known as Careless Music Manila). His labelmates include the likes of Nadine Lustre, Curtismith and Bret Jackson (KINGwAw).

Meanwhile, McDonie is well-known as a member of K-pop group MOMOLAND, who debuted in 2016. Their last release was the single album ‘Ready Or Not’, which dropped in November.
