Yuna, Mino, Phum Viphurit to play Overpass Music Festival virtual event

Originally set to debut in Orange County, California, it will now open up to the rest of the world

Originally set to debut in Orange County, California this year, Overpass Music Festival has announced an online event with a line-up boasting K-pop idols Mino and Gray, Malaysian R&B sensation Yuna and Filipino pop star James Reid.

Revamped as Overpass: The Virtual Experience, the event will take place September 26. The virtual line-up is rounded up by a diverse selection of international acts: Phum Viphurit, Sosupersam, Joy Crookes and Curtismith. See its poster below:

The festival made headlines earlier in the year for its predominantly Asian line-up, which initially counted Jhené Aiko and DPR Live amongst its ranks.

“Considering that Overpass is about bringing in diverse artists — whether they are local or international — putting together the lineup was definitely a huge challenge,” founder Danyl Geneciran told Forbes in January.

“We wanted to create a list that consisted of prominent and up-and-coming names. It was really important to identify that each artist’s fans would also enjoy all the other acts.”

In February, the festival announced its cancellation due to the COVID-19 threat.

Access to Overpass: The Virtual Experience is ticketed at US$8. A merch bundle (US$90) is available in limited quantities. The package includes Overpass-branded sweaters, fanny packs, bucket hats, and disposable cameras.

A portion of the festival’s proceeds will go to non-profit organisations Project Hope and Young Leaders Council.
